Sean Caulfield

"Sean Caulfield has been offering visitors to the Cape an opportunity to own and enjoy a unique piece of Africa for more than twelve years, San Rock Art. With his various paint techniques and using resins and rock aggregates of various colors he moulds rock canvases in various colors and sizes. Sean has made an extensive study of bushmen paintings in their natural state throughout Southern Africa and this has given Sean the confidence and inspiration to faithfully reproduce many of the original bushmen paintings in addition to his own stylized works in this medium. In Sean's art on his rock canvas, he also draws inspiration from Africa and its diversity, painting semi abstract sometimes mystical wildlife scenes. He does portraiture of the African tribal people fused with Africa and its art, leaving the rock back drop to give it the African feel."

GAVAN ROBERTS-BAXTER

MASTER MINIATURE - BOAT BUILDER

Gavin Roberts-Baxter has his home studio/miniature boat yard in the tranquil setting of the Cape West Coast’s, Grotto Bay Private Residential Estate and Coastal Nature Reserve. Once a cabinet and boiler maker, Gavan has been making miniature boats for more than 25 years, ever since he nearly lost his right hand in a bad accident. Gavan does not use kit form or mass produced moulds of the boats, but shapes moulds and assembles the boats from the plans of the live size boats. He describes himself as a deckhand and, if you study the rigging on his precisely scaled down schooners and the tiny sliding doors on the trawler’s wheelhouse, the Lilliputian decking, cannons, rope and figureheads on the decks, you can almost imagine a miniature Gavan manning these exquisite boats. Gavan’s boats are priceless collections of art and adorn various museums, private collections and Art galleries all over the world.
